Adding Text

If you are adding text directly from your papers it will need to be edited down and possibly simplified some for a general. (Take a look at these writing for the web tips.) Once you have rewritten your text, you can paste it into your webpage.

I recommend cutting your text from your Word doc, pasting it into a text editor and then cutting and pasting that into your webpage. This will remove any strange formatting that Word might have added. It will also remove formatting like italics and boldface, so you will need to add those back in.

If you don’t see all of the formatting tools click the box icon (see below).

Adding Media & Media Credits

To add pictures you will need to download them and then reupload them to the site. All images must be given captions and credits in the following format and link back to where you got the image from.

The basic format:  what the images is (creator, year)

For example: Mother and cub Panda in Wolong Reserve (Amy Vitale, National Geographic, 2016)

If you don’t have all of the information, include as much as you can. For example, if you don’t know the photographer and year but you do know it is from National Geographic, write it as:

Panda in the Chengdu Panda Rescue (National Geographic)

Adding An ArcGIS Map

To add a map to your webpage you will need to get the embed code from ArcGIS and paste it into the page. If you want visitors to your page to be able to click different layers on and off, you will need to select “Legend” and “Layer Toggle” when you copy the embed code. The following video will instruct you on how to do all of this.
